Bolhão a Gosto Restaurant Brand Identity & Packaging Design

A visual identity inspired by Porto’s classic ornamental ironwork and traditional azulejos - crafted in gold against deep “Porto Blue” for an authentic Portuguese restaurant inside the iconic Mercado do Bolhão.

The Client

Located inside the iconic Mercado do Bolhão, Bolhão a Gosto serves authentic Portuguese cuisine to locals and tourists alike. The branding challenge was to create an identity that honored the historic architecture of the newly renovated market.

The Design

We developed a visual identity inspired by the market’s classic ornamental ironwork and traditional Portuguese tiles (azulejos). The logo utilizes a geometric, floral motif in gold against a deep “Porto Blue” background, creating a look that feels both premium and deeply rooted in the city’s heritage.

Inside the Market

The identity had to live inside the newly renovated Mercado do Bolhão without clashing with it, so the applications borrow from the building's own materials. The gold tile-inspired pattern wraps a deep blue pastry box, eco-friendly takeaway bags and paper totes, and even the restaurant's delivery van.

Staff wear branded blue aprons and polos carrying the same gold motif, and the Comida Tradicional Portuguesa line beneath the wordmark states the promise plainly. From the entrance signage under the market's ironwork to the wooden-ceilinged dining room, every touchpoint repeats the same quiet message: traditional Porto cooking, presented with the care the market deserves.

The Result

The finished identity feels as though it has always belonged inside the Mercado do Bolhão. Gold foil packaging and branded aprons give the restaurant a cohesive, upscale presence that photographs beautifully, helping the brand stand out on social media and travel guides. The tile-inspired pattern now works across takeaway bags, vehicle wraps, and signage, turning every touchpoint into a celebration of Porto’s culinary heritage.
